Chemist tells of methods to deal with the morning after

Tim othy O’M eara, professor of m athem atics and chairm an of th e Search Com m ittee, declined to reveal exactly w hat the resu lts of th e search are. “ I t’s all in his hands n o w ," O ’M eara com m ented, referring to H esburgh. A fter H esburgh deliberates on th e recom m endation, how ever, the Board of T rustees will m ake the final decision and appointm ent. The next Board m eeting bn May 12, so the decision should be m ade public before the end of th e Spring sem ester. E ight academ ians w ere in te r­ view ed for th e position, bu t one, Thom as B. Day, acting chancellor for Academ ic Affairs at th e U niver­ sity of M aryland, has since accep­ ted th e presidency of a university in California and has been rem oved from consideration. The o ther candidates are John A. Dillon, vice-president for A cademic Affairs at the University of Louis­ ville; Frank T. Birtel, deputy Provost from T ulane Unversity; Jam es L. Perotti, associate Pro­ vost, Ohio U niversity; S tephen J. M iller, associate Provost, N orth­ w estern U niversity; Louis H. Masotti, d irector o f the C enter for U rban A ffairs, N orthw estern Uni­ versity; and J a n e t L. Travis, Pro­ vost of N orthern K entucky U niver­ sity. Fr. D avid B urrell, chairm and of th e ND Theology D epartm ent, is also being considered. He is the only candidate who is p resently a m em ber of th e U niversity com m u­ nity.
